As more evidence accumulates related to the neurobiology and genetics of schizophrenia, it seems logical to ask this question.  Our society continues to maintain that this disease is a “mental illness”.  The consequences of this determination are the perpetuation of stigma and restricted access to necessary medical care.  Shouldn’t we be thinking of schizophrenia as a medical disease?
